It doesn't wear fast. Brakes are very strong. 20\30K km should be possible if your careful.
, so assuming when they're used for brakes they last 20k they wont wear instantly
!!!!!! A big semi truck brake drum and pads would never wear out and add some rotational mass making the initial launch smoother.
Stack shoes together and make the drum deeper.
And make them servo style , that would help clamping power with what's there.
