Our 1951 Hudson Hornet, which was in our family from 1968-2006, is equipped with the original type, single range, Hydra-Matic. In its 57 years and 110,000 miles of service (so far) that transmission has never been out of the car or required any repairs. A four-speed, it shifts flawlessly. Thanks for this great article on the Hydra-Matic’s embryonic stages.

This reminds me of of my 56 Chevrolet with the Touch Down Overdrive transmission. I think of it as the first car with planetay gears used in this car. This is cool I never knew they had such technology back in those days this shows the progression of real history.
